Clean, refreshing visual piece... it is obvious the authors did their sneaker research

I own several sneaker books including SOLE PROVIDER and Bobbito Garcia's WHERE'D YOU GET THOSE (both of which I recommend) and I found this book to be a refreshing alternative. Written by the guys behind CROOKED TONGUES (which is a fantastic site by the way), this book is meant for the sneaker collector who appreciates the aesthetic qualities of a shoe, rather than for someone who only buys into the hype and player endorsement. For practically every sneaker that is showcased, at least one clear photo, brief history, and random fact dedicated to each shoe. I also appreciated the effort by the authors to distinguish original editions from reissues. In addition, the sneaker "dictionary" and collecting/cleaning tips sections are great as well.

One word of caution is that I would not recommend the book for those who are only into Air Jordans, or Dunks, or swear by only one sneaker brand. The book contains information for a variety of different models and brands, some which are more obscure. For example, I found myself skipping over some Vans, Reebok, and Diadora models. The authors also have more of preference for vintage running shoes as well. But if you have an open mind and an eclectic taste in sneakers, I recommend owning this book.

This book is great to look at even if you're not into sneakers. Beautifully presented design and layout, and great history details. A good oversight of all the significant brands and their best creations.

A Fairly Comprehensive Look at Sneakers

A great look at most of the shoes in each of the major companies respective ranges. While the descriptions and info on the shoes are pretty scant, the pictures more than make up for that. The best part of running through this book is getting hit with the nostalgia that comes with seeing so many products from the not-so-distant past. A nice modern coffee table (or ottoman, I suppose) book. Air Max 1s are the best shoes ever.

Excellent devotional

If you're looking for a daily devotional that sets your mind on things above and focuses on the heart of Jesus, then "A Woman Who Reflects the Heart of Jesus" by Elizabeth George was written for you.

Unlike any other Elizabeth George book I've read, this one is written as a devotional that can be read in a month by reading a chapter or day, or can stretched out by reading one a week, focusing on each character quality more extensively. The characteristics are in alphabetical order, beginning with "Approachable", and ending with "Worship". Others included are "Compassionate", "Faithful", "Humble", "Prayerful" and "Thankful", to name a few.

I love her writing style and how personal it is. It's engaging and entertaining while also enlightening and encouraging. She shares from her personal experiences as well as from close friends and family who influenced her. She also uses many Biblical examples from both the Old and New Testaments and applies their stories to our life in the 21st century. But of course, she uses the greatest example of all, the only One who perfectly portrays each virtue: and that is Jesus Himself.

In each chapter I read, there was always something meaningful and helpful for me to take away, whether it be just one sentence, one paragraph, or the whole chapter! This is a great devotional or study for any woman after God's own heart!

Great for small group Bible study

This book was bought for a small Bible study for our church ladies. Every two weeks we read one day & then gather and discuss. One day is full of enough information for a bible study of 1 to 1/2 hours. Makes a great study for others to share their feelings and to discuss different situations in our lives and how to change or improve on being a women of Jesus.

About the Author
Dr Sarah Whittingham is an historian who specialises in the social history, architecture and gardens of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Sarah is the expert on the Victorian fern craze. As well as lecturing on the subject (including at literary festivals), she has appeared on BBC radio and television programmes talking about Pteridomania, and has written articles on it for a number of publications, including the Victorian Society's Journal, the National Trust magazine, Country Life, The English Garden and Heritage.

Her book, The Victorian Fern Craze, was published in 2009. The first edition sold out, and it has been reprinted. In February 2012 Frances Lincoln published her major illustrated book, Fern Fever: The Story of Pteridomania, which has received great reviews in the New York Times, Saturday Telegraph, Scotsman magazine, Sunday Times in Ireland, Daily Mail, House & Garden, The English Garden, BBC Gardens Illustrated, The Lady, Cumbria Life, Oxford Times, The World of Interiors, and Country Life, among other publications.
