There is nothing in this book that promotes hard-knowledge.

If I go to w3schools website then I will learn something that has a universal value. This is pretty much a giant list of "you get what you make out of it".

Good coverage of global issues

This book has 14 chapters. It could be ideal for the MBA or undergraduate level course. Topics covered are the same as those from their competitors.

However, there were only four case studies on 1. Hong Kong Disneyland, 2. Nora-Sakari in Malaysia, 3. Western Union, and 4. The Tata Way. It will not be suited for the MBA course.

The book will be better if fewer chapters and more in-depth case studies are included.

Expressive, highly demanding, years of enjoyment

This book is a must read for any advancing flutist. These highly demanding pieces require attention to counting, tone, articulations, phrasing, finger fluidity, etc. They each have slower, highly demanding tonal sections and faster, highly demanding technical sections and these often overlap. (I recommend listening to a recording to get an idea, though recordings are often played faster than the learning flutist will play it.) I learned these expressive pieces during high school through college and now, 10+ years later still love playing pieces from this book. If you are a flutist looking for music that will stretch you and enjoy French Classical composers (like Debussy, Gaubert, Faure, etc.), then I recommend this book. (Note: there are no Debussy pieces in this book.)

As to print quality, the ink is bold, clear and a readable size. Piano score is readable (average fonts). I have not found any errors, just one note where the ink did not print fully (Andante Pastoral, page 38, measure 5).

I'm using it for my lessons but i love the fact that has challenging well known pieces that are very chromatic and tonal. the best part is that it is performance ready as a solo or piano accompaniment. YES I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS TO A FRIEND, I RECOMMEND IT TO WHOEVER IS READING THIS!!!!

These pieces are among many which were written as graduation pieces from the Paris Conservatory collected here in this volume of ten. They demand technical facility and artistry and they belong in the library of every serious advanced flutist.

Glitchy book with a lot of depth taught me a lot.

This book is a wealth of information which not only tells the "how" of Visual Basic but the "why" too. There is vastly more depth here than in the book I read prior to this one, which was Visual Basic 2015 in 24 Hours by James Foxall. The Foxall book starts with the Visual Studio 2015 IDE and works into the code. This book starts with the code and works outward to cover various aspects of the IDE. That said, I'm glad I went through the Foxall book before this one.

But part of the learning process, it seems, is working through the bugs in the programming books.

Below are some glitches and annoyances I recorded as I worked my way through this book. And yes, I checked the errata for the book and found none of these. Weirdly there are no page numbers for this book in the Kindle edition, so I can't refer to pages.

Chapter 7 Displaying Dialogues.

In the message box section. System.Windows.Forms.MessageBoxButtons.OKCancel worked. MessageBoxButtons.OKCancel did not. system.windows.forms worked. windows.forms alone did not.

Step 5 of working with the PrintDialog control.

Putting the code before the class declaration works, not "at the top of the class."

Chapter 10 Building Objects

In "Creating an Object and Adding a Color Property." Following Step 2 gets me two "Sub Main" statements, but only one is allowed.
In "Inheriting from Car" step 6. "Dim objCar As New SportsCar" got me a duplicate object definition error.

Why do authors of these books so often say to remove code and type in other code? Why not have the reader comment out code and add new code, then there's something to revert to if the new code doesn't work.

Chapter 11.

Scanning Favorites. Step 4. WebFavorites worked. WebFavoriteCollection did not.

Figure 12.7. Sloppy database diagram. Roster ClassID should be shown linked to the Class ClassID, not just randomly pointed at the box representing Class.

Binding simple controls step 3. This block of code should start with a Private Sub statement, but that isn't there.

Data Entry and Validation Step 2. It says to add a table with eight rows and three columns. It says "Insert Table under the Table menu." But there is no "Table Menu." It's the HTML menu. Also, once you add the table control you can right click in the middle of the table and access a panel that allows you to change the number of rows and columns of the table. This is not in the table control properties. What a hassle to have to discover this myself.

The author writes, "When creating a new page, you have access to update the ContentPlaceHolders." What is this? It's the first time the term is used in the book. Am I supposed to know what a CotentPlaceHolder is already?

In the No-Code Data Viewing and Updating section Step 2, Why do I have to copy page long blocks of code to implement the GridView and SqlDataSource controls when those controls are available in the IDE to automatically put on my aspx page?

Chapter 15

What is an "under the build" menu? It would be nice to have had that term defined.

The need to get a developers licence to do a Windows 8 app is no longer necessary. I have Windows 10, and I just went to Settings/Update & Security/For developers and set my machine to Developer Mode.

This book came my way providentially. My heart needed a lot of healing and letting go of old wounds.
So as Louise Hay and David Kessler would put it in the form of affirmation, all people and all situations are delivering me towards my higher good.
An easy book to read, chapters divided into short sections, gentle in its words, respectful of the matter being discussed but firm in showing the path to self-empowerment and healing.
This book deals with all that has to do with losses that clog our hearts leaving it blocked and shrivelled for years causing prolonged sadness, anger and a complete disappointment in life. An ever bleeding wound that will not let us live our life to its completeness.
It is only through thoroughly honouring our losses, live in and move through the grievance that we can slowly change our usually biased perception of what has happened. Repeated affirmations will slowly dissolve away our negative thoughts. Healing will bring us to a place where we can safely let go of pain and sorrow leaving us free to hold our love as a beacon to all that, who and what we loved and cherished in this lifetime.
The book makes no distinction between mayor or minor loss. The heart does not make that difference. Besides the classical losses of death, divorce and broken relationships of all kinds, the book dedicates a whole section on disenfranchised grief, that is that grief for which people do not feel they have a socially recognized right to grieve such as, LGBT relationships, loss of pets (a whole chapter is dedicated), abortion or miscarriages, suicide, drug/disease related deaths, loss of jobs or a kind of life that can never be again like it was before, such as cancer patients.
The beauty of this book is that it lovingly points out many times that all our interrelations and exchanges with and within this world are assigned to us for our own healing. That relationships and events are our guides and teachers that the Universe uses to help us discover within ourselves the Divine and the Power we all carry within and rarely acknowledge.

Having trouble dealing with a loss? Read this book

Everyone experiences loss in this life, whether it be the breakup of a relationship, the death of a loved one, or something else. If you are like me who sometimes find loss hard to take, authors David Kessler and Louise Hay can help. They have created a wonderful new book on the subject – You Can Heal Your Heart: Finding Peace After a Breakup, Divorce, or Death.

On the cover of this month’s Unity Magazine Kessler is called “America’s Leading Grief Expert”. I love how the book mixes Kessler’s expertise with Hay’s affirmation techniques. “Grieving is challenging, but it is our thoughts that often add suffering to our pain,” the authors write in the first few pages. Kessler knows all about grief, Hay knows all about positive thoughts. It’s a powerful combination.

You Can Heal Your Heart is a book that gives readers hope, even in the most dire of circumstances. “Although it’s natural to forget your power after you lose a loved one, the truth is that after a breakup, divorce, or death, there remains an ability within you to create a new reality,” they say. The most common causes of grief are covered in different chapters: a broken romantic relationship, divorce, death of a loved one, even death of a pet. One chapter is devoted to other types of losses, such as losing a job. Regardless of the loss, there is light on the other side according to Kessler and Hay. “Our ultimate wish is for you to discover that no matter what you’re facing, you can heal your heart. You deserve a loving, peaceful life.”

Reading You Can Heal Your Heart caused me to take a fresh look at some of my past losses, and to appreciate the lessons learned through those events. “Life is always moving toward healing,” say the authors. One story that touched me was of Candy Lightner, who lost her first grade son Jesse in the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy. Mrs. Lightner encourages us to “change an angry thought into a loving one, each and every day.” The book is full of other inspiring stories of people who have dealt with loss and have come out on the other side with a positive outlook on life.

“We deeply believe in the affirmation Life loves us, although you may wonder how that applies in loss,” the authors conclude. “It doesn’t mean that you won’t experience loss—but depending on how you hold, perceive, and think about that loss, life can be there for you, even cradling you through your toughest times.” This is a book to read if you are having difficulty with a loss of your own, or to give to a friend or family member going through a similar ordeal.

Grief isn't Dorothy from Wizard of Oz

Louise Hay has a beautiful book here but it's about as helpful as ice cubes for lunch. Deep abiding grief cannot always be healed with a.bunch of fluffy affirmations. It's just not an effective tool because grief comes and goes in waves, it's triggered by many subconscious things and has a mind of its own. Just because someone repeats "Men come and go but I will always support myself," after divorce, and even if they click their heals three times like in the Wizard of Oz, saying a cute little line falls on deaf ears for many of us dealing with grief. I also find countless tales of people I don't know boring, not necessarily credible and irreverent to my own situation; just filler to create a new book. I am finding that grief is best healed with professional care, self care, expression, mindfulness and most of all, time. To minimize the issue by even suggesting that fairytale affirmations will fix certain types of grief is nothing short of ridiculous.
